Control Windows Services and Startup

How to Control Windows Services

Do you need to manage your PC a little better? There are options to control the services that Windows operating systems offer. We’re going to evaluate what some of the services are and what they do. Next, we’ll show you how to manage your use of those services.

Some of the services that Microsoft offers are:

  • Windows Search Explorer

  • Windows Photo Gallery

  • Windows Media Player

  • Windows Live Mail (News)

  • Windows Contacts

  • Windows Calendar

Taking Control

There is a program provided by Microsoft to control all Windows Services. In order to run it, follow these simple steps:

  • First go to the Start button

  • Next, select Programs

  • Then select Administrative Tools

  • Now select Services

This will list all of the services provided by Windows, and tell you about what all they do. It will also give you their status. To manage these services, follow these steps:

  • First choose a service and then double click it. This will present a properties page.

  • Generally found in the middle of the properties page, you’ll find an option that says Startup type

  • Now click on the drop-down button. This will allow you to choose Manual, Automatic, or Disabled for that particular service.

So, if you want to control services provided by Windows, these are the easy steps you can follow to make them manual, automatic, or disabled.

Control Windows Startup Entries

Is your PC running a little slowly on startup? There may be programs running at startup that you don’t want or need. Let’s show you a way to control Windows startup items. You’ll have your PC running just the way you want it. Here is a simple “How to” on accomplishing the task:

  • Click on the Start button

  • Click Run

  • Type in msconfig and hit OK or Enter

  • From here, you’ll see a page called System Configuration Utility. You will be on the General icon. Click on the Startup tab. You will now see the programs that are running at your PC’s startup.

All of the programs that have a check mark beside them run at startup. By removing the checkmark on the programs you no longer want running, you will increase the speed of your PC’s startup. It will also improve the performance of your PC. Be careful to remove only the programs that you are sure of and understand. You don’t want to accidentally remove a program that you use.

You may be finding Malware, Adware, Spyware, or some other form of malicious program that is running at your systems startup. By using a virus scan and removal program, you can resolve this problem. It won’t be of any help to simply uncheck these programs, as they will more than likely enable themselves again on your next startup.

So, follow these instructions to enhance the startup and speed of you computer. If you find that you have an infected startup menu with Malware, Adware, Spyware, or another form of malicious programming, you should strongly consider using a virus scan and removal program to fix the problem(s).
