What is Javascript?
JavaScript is a programming language that is used to add interactive features like changing images with mouse-overs, calculating data input into online finance calculators, opening pop-up windows, and validating web form content on web sites. JavaScript is a universal language that is embedded in the html of web browsers, which means that it requires the web browser to run.
So why are there JavaScript Runtime Errors?
While JavaScript enables some of the more interactive, and fun web applications to work, it is also vulnerable to errors. Sometimes there’s an error in the actual code, or there are temporary server or network issues, or your browser could be using an outdated version of JavaScript files.
Troubleshooting to solve JS Problems
Whatever the cause, there are a few things you can try to fix the “runtime” and other JavaScript related errors that keep popping up on your screen.
-
Try testing the web site that gave you the error from another user account, browser, or computer. This should tell you whether the problem is in the actual code or if it’s specific to your account/computer.
-
You can disable your scripting debug by going to your Tools menu and clicking on the Advanced tab. Depending on which browser your are running, click on “Disable script debugging” and click OK or clear the field for “Display a notification about every script error” and click OK.
-
Remove all temporary Internet files. Under the Tools menu, click Internet Options. Click the General tab and under Browsing History, click Delete. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files. Under Cookies, click Delete Cookies. Under History, click Delete History.
-
Verify that JavaScript and other scripts are enabled. Under Tools, click Internet Options and open the Security tab. Click Default Level and OK.
