The general consensus is that Microsoft is doing a good job with their Windows Updates, making owning and using a computer a much simpler and safer process.
Why does Microsoft Provide Updates?
Microsoft's philosophy as far as providing updates is far from being sinister as some of the more paranoid among us would suggest, it is more of a case that they see the world of computers as a dynamic one, and they want to update their product to meet changing demands and challenges, and they can do so often on a daily basis. The truth is most computer owner's are blissfully unaware of how Microsoft is constantly updating their operating system. They just leave the necessary ports open and the updates flow in, usually during their off peak hours.
However there are those who still would like to know about which updates are coming in, and prefer to filter them. There are also many others who may have had their ports closed by mistake, and would now like to scan the list of Windows update and possibly even upload a few on to their hard disc.
Using a Catalog to Keep Track of Updates
Microsoft has even considered that possibility and has amassed a Windows Updates Catalog containing every update relevant to their current operating systems: XP, Vista and Windows 7.
However, before you begin to upload every update that you can, take a moment of two to discover what they are and what they can do for your computer. Windows recently introduced an Update Catalog that allows you to review all the operating system updates that have been issued, with each review having a short description alongside it, describing what it can do.
How do I see it?
In order to access the Windows Update Catalog all you have to do is use Windows search parameters after selecting the correct operating system. When you get there, you will a complete listing of Critical Updates and Service Packs, Recommended Updates, as well as Multi-Language Features.
By using the Catalog, you can better determine what parts of your system need special attention while at the same time, avoiding unnecessary updates. |
