The rotating images on your background are lovely, but they may not be what you’d select given the option of changing your desktop. And fortunately, you do have the option to change the desktop of your Windows 7 machine – you simply need to make your own desktop backdrop slide show of your favorite pictures instead.

Gather Images

To make your own slideshow, you’ll first need to collect images that you do want displayed on your background. Gather the images from pictures you’ve taken or use your favorite images collected from emails and the internet. As you find the pictures you want to use, put them all into a single folder clearly labeled to be easy to find. You can save this folder of images anywhere on your computer, but the easiest places to locate it for use with the desktop slideshow is in My Pictures or on your Desktop.

Making a Slideshow to Customize Your Desktop Display
When your images are saved together in a single folder, you’re ready to make a desktop display slideshow for Windows 7.

Click on Start and then Control Panel. Select the option that says Personalization.

When the Personalization menu comes up, select Desktop Background near the bottom left corner of the menu options.

The Desktop Background menu will open and you’ll be given the option to Browse for your own images near the top of the menu. Under the Browse option, you’ll see the collections of images already available as options from Windows.

Browse for the folder of images you created earlier. If you stored them in My Pictures or on the Desktop the folder should be easy to find. Select the folder of images that you created and click OK.

The pictures contained in the folder will appear with a checkmark beside each. The system automatically selects every picture in the folder to use in the slide show. To remove a picture from the slide show, simply uncheck the box beside that particular image.

You have additional options for the slide show including the picture position on the screen and the speed at which the pictures rotate. To change the picture position, make your selection in the “Picture position” box at the bottom left of the picture selection screen. The same is true for changing the timing of the pictures in the “Change position every” box. There is an option to shuffle the pictures as well by selecting the “Shuffle” box.

When you’ve made all of your preferred selections, click on Save changes to put your new slide show into effect. Enjoy!
