A DLL or Dynamic Link Library file, is used by Windows and Windows based programs to allow many different levels of interface between the programs and with the user. There are many types of DLL files and multiple programs can share one file.

DLL Error

If you have received a DLL error similar to the one shown above, there can be several reasons such as:

  1. A program was uninstalled that removed a required .dll file that is now preventing your software from running correctly.

  2. A new program was installed that replaced the .dll file with either an older version or a version that is incompatible with other programs or your operating system using the same .dll file.

  3. A program installation was not done correctly and corrupted one or more of the .dll files.

  4. Another user or program maliciously or mistakenly deleted the .dll file.

  5. A hardware issue may exist, such as a bad hard disk drive that can cause the data on the drive to become corrupt, resulting in the .dll errors.

There are several solutions for repairing your files so that your programs will function correctly. Listed below are different corrective actions you can take for resolving your .dll file error:

  1. First, you should either hit “Shift/PrntScrn” or write down the file name given in the error code for reference.

  2. Try re-installing the program that gave you the error message. When the program is re-installed the missing file or program components should be replaced.

  3. If you recently uninstalled another program, and suspect that the error began after that program was removed, reinstall that program again or use System Restore to select the last known working configuration. (Remember when uninstalling programs to keep shared files).

  4. Use your favorite search engine to search for the file name listed in the error message. There are many sites available with free DLL downloads. Be sure to find a reputable site, download the required file and save it to your hard disk. The error message will usually tell you the file location where it expected to find the .dll file and could not. Make sure you move the file to the location given.

  5. Run your anti-spy-ware/virus software or registry cleaner application to look for malicious programs that could be the source of your .dll files being corrupted or deleted. Clear any threatening programs found and re-launch your application.

The steps given above should resolve your DLL error problems. Replacing the missing components will bring your system and software back to proper operation.
