Firefox is a free Internet browser that is secure, user-friendly, and fun. with its pop-up blocker and tabbed browsing design. It is also fully customizable to your browsing preferences with features like personas, private browsing, and one-click bookmarking. While it is a great, popular browser overall, sometimes it seems a little slow to users. We’ve compiled a few tips on how to bring your Firefox up to speed.

Control Browser Requests

Normally, your web browser will only make one request when attempting to access a page. But if you enable “pipelining” Firefox will make multiple requests at once, resulting in much faster downloads. To enable pipelining:
network.http.pipelining

1.    Open Firefox and in the address bar type about:config. Hit Enter.
2.    Scroll down the list and look for network.http.pipelining. network.http.pipelining.maxrequests.
3.    Double click on False to change it to True.

network.http.proxy.pipelining

1.    Open Firefox and in the address bar type about:config. Hit Enter.
2.    Scroll down the list and look for network.http.proxy.pipelining.
3.    Double click on False to change it to True.

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

1.    Open Firefox and in the address bar type about:config. Hit Enter.
2.    Scroll down the list and look for network.http.pipelining.maxrequests.
3.    Change the 4 that is already there to 10.

Reaction Time

Your PC may be programmed to wait for a short period of time once it receives information. You can change this by creating a new entry in the Firefox’s configuration. We’re going to go back into about:config again, but this time we’re going to add an entry.

1.    Right click anywhere in the list and click on New.
2.    Select Integer.
3.    Type “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and then set the value to 0.

Sub Menu Delay

To prevent any delay when Firefox accesses sub-menus, you’ll need to create another new entry in your browser’s configuration.

1.    Open Firefox and type “about:config” in the address bar. Hit Enter.
2.    Right click anywhere in the list and click New.
3.    Select Integer.
4.    Type ui.submenuDelay.
5.    When prompted, enter 0 as the value.

By changing these three settings, you should notice a big different in how fast Firefox operates for you. Your pages should be loading significantly faster with these changes in place. Happy browsing!
