"Can't Find CD-ROM"

So here's the problem . . .

Recently your computer has not been recognizing my CD/DVD ROM drive.  Or maybe it's your printer -or your webcam.  When you check online it seems like this is almost a normal problem.  Usually restarting the computer works . . . usually, but you have to restart twice most of the time.

Sometimes you get a black screen with "Err1, Err2, Err3" and it freezes.  Restarting it again usually just opens up Windows as normal, but sometimes there's only a black screen and a blinking cursor at the top left.  It stays there for about five minutes before Windows opens.

But it keeps happening, and then you restart and get the message "Operating System not found."  You restart again and maybe it works fine, maybe not.

Even if your system will work some of the time, it's obvious there's a problem.  And the most likely cause is a Driver error.

What is an Installer Error

Sometimes when you are installing or uninstalling a software program, you may be faced with some kind of Windows installer error. They occur as warning messages. Mainly, the reason for them is the Windows Installer service.

Some examples of these errors are:

  • Error 5: Access is denied

  • Error 1706: No valid source could be found for product [2].

  • Error 1911: Could not register type library for file [2]. Contact your support personnel

  • Error 1155: File [1] not found

  • Error 1325: ”[2]” is not a valid short file name.

  • Error 2755: Server returned unexpected error

Dealing with Installer Errors

Sometimes, believe it or not, you can solve the problem by simply emptying the “temp” folders!

  1. Open your Internet Browser and click on Options.
  2. Access the Security or Privacy tabs.
  3. Locate the link to the Temporary Interent Files and opt to clear them.  This won't harm your computer.

If that doesn’t do it, however, then the easiest thing to do is to abort your install or uninstall the program and then reinstall it.

Putting Muscle Behind your Un-Installation

It often helps if you use a free ‘uninstall’ program, like FixCleaner, that will remove EVERYTHING associated with the program. The uninstall that comes with most programs can leave a lot of trash behind, even program folders, and they often leave junk in your system registry.

A program like FixCleaner is invaluable in cleaning out everything, and they do mean everything, having to do with that particular program. That way, when you try to reinstall, you have a clean slate with which to work. A program of that type is highly recommended even for routine uninstalls, to keep the trash and junk off of your hard drive and out of your registry.

Most of the time a clean reinstall will solve the problem. If it doesn’t, get another copy of (or re-download) the software and try that. The process of uninstalling and re-installing a new version is one that can often reset the way your computer looks at the software.

What is an Uninstaller Error

Uninstaller errors are one of those problems that come out of left field when you thought you were just performing a simple task: uninstalling a program. Uninstaller errors can happen with any and all software, so don’t be surprised if one pops up on your screen just when you thought everything was going along swimmingly.

Occasionally you just simply restart the uninstall and everything will go smoothly from there forward. But don’t hold your breath. Usually you have a corrupted file associated with the uninstaller and it is all but impossible to find out which one it is!

Dealing with Uninstaller Errors

Step 1. First off you need to make sure that the program causing the error is stopped. The easiest way to accomplish this is with the Task Manager.

  • Right click on the taskbar area and select Start Task Manager. The Task Manager will show you all of the currently running applications under one tab and all of the individual processes running under another tab.
  • If you see a program that says “Not Responding” out beside it, click on “End Task.” Sometimes it will show the program as still running; in that case you still need to hit the “End Task” button.

Step 2. The simplest and most effective thing to do is to use a dedicated uninstaller program, like FixClaener.

Keeping your PC Clean = Keeping it Running Right

A dedicated uninstaller program, like FixCleaner, will remove every single file and folder having to do with the program and will go in the system registry and remove all traces of it there. Of course it always gives you the option of what to delete, in case you might (for some unknown reason) not want to uninstall it all.

You need not fear an uninstaller error, though it might be a real pain at the time. If you just proceed methodically you can usually take care of it all by yourself.
