GoogleUpdate.exe is an update mechanism that belongs to Google’s range of applications including Chrome and Earth. It works in the background of your computer, automatically running at startup and searching for and downloading updates to Google’s programs.

Check the Status

To see if googleupdate.exe is running on your system, click “Ctrl+Alt+Del” to open your task manager. Then click on the Processes tab. This tab shows you all of the items that are currently running on your system.

Sometimes users experience application, connection, and load errors regarding their googleupdate.exe files. When these errors occur, users may not be able to open the program. Here are a few simple solutions that may solve your error problem.

 

Clear Your Cookies & Cache

As with just about any error, sometimes the best solution is the simplest. By regularly clearing out your cookies and cache, you often clean up any problem files that are being stored on your system.

Add GoogleUpdate.exe to Your Windows Firewall

If the problem is related to your Windows firewall, you can add googleupdate.exe to your firewall.

1. Click Start and then choose Control Panel and Windows Firewall.
2. Click on the Exceptions tab.
3. Select Add Program.
4. Click Browse and select My Computer from the left side of the window.
5. Select Local Disk (C:) and then click on Open.
6. Open Documents and Settings.
7. Open the folder with your username.
8. Open Local Settings and then Application Data.
9. Within Application Data click on the Google folder and then the Update folder.
10. Select the folder with the highest number and open it.
11. Choose the file googleupdate.exe.

Delete GoogleUpdate.exe

If you decide that you don’t want to update Google Chrome or Earth etc. you can simply delete the googleupdate.exe file from your system.


1. From the Start menu, type “msconfig” in the Run field and hit enter.
2. This will launch a System Configuration Utility window. Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the box by GoogleUpdate.
3. Click OK.
4. Go back to the start menu and type “taskschd.msc” in the Run field. This opens your Scheduled Tasks window.
5. Highlight the Google Update Task User and click Delete.
6. Now to delete googleupdate.exe click on the drive Windows is installed on and open Documents and Settings. Click on your user account (administrator or whatever user name you have) and open Local Settings.
7. Click on Application Data and scroll down to Google. Open it and click on Update.
8. Delete the GoogleUpdate.exe file.
