Windows Update Isn't Working
Windows Update Isn't Working
You need Windows Update to work normally if you hope to keep your computer protected and working with all of the various software and internet applications we use today. Of course, there are times when things don’t go well and we put it off to deal with another day, but if your Windows Update isn’t working correctly, you need to take action.
Errors with Windows Update
If you’re having trouble with Windows Update, you might be seeing an error like the one that follows or you might not see anything at all pop up about the update. Instead, some of your normal programs might not be working correctly anymore or you see errors in unexpected places.

Updating Windows Manually
If you are seeing error messages like the one above or encountering programs that aren’t working, your first step will be to update Windows manually. You can do this by typing “Windows Update” in your search bar at the Start Button.

The program will appear. Simply select Windows Update. You’ll be shown a new window prompting you to check for updates. Select Check for updates to begin the process of updating your computer.

Your computer will scan for updates. When it finds the ones you’re missing, you’ll see a notification to finish installing the necessary updates.

Select Install updates and the updating process will begin.

While the updates are being downloaded, Click on Check settings. In your Windows Update settings, be sure that you have Install updates automatically selected. Select OK.

Your computer should now be set to update automatically. If it is still not updating correctly, turn off all of your virus and protection software temporarily and try to download the necessary updates through your machine. The virus protection should come back online correctly after the download has been installed and the computer restarted.
Resolving Additional Problems with Windows Update
If you are still experiencing difficulties with the Windows Update, you can try the following methods to get the update done correctly.
Download the latest Windows Agent Update. You can find downloads on this page of the Microsoft website. Simply follow the instructions on the screen to determine the correct agent and then download the solution.

Once you’ve installed the correct update agent, you should be able to get the updates correctly moving forward.
If your computer starts to update and then stops or doesn’t download correctly, work through the solutions offered by Microsoft on this page.

All of these solutions require a restart, and once your computer is restarted, the Windows Update should work normally again and your computer should be protected.
